Since taking over Kavala in 2011, owner Bektaş Guneş ("Beko") has developed this once-tired restaurant into one of Turunç's most highly-regarded locations. After many years travelling the world in the merchant navy, Beko has now made his home in Turunç and decicated himself to introducing visitors to the tastes and delights of authentic Turkish cuisine at Kavala Restaurant. With brothers "Willy" and Temur at his side, and former naval colleague Haydar as one of the two chefs (the other is Abbas) he has created a welcoming environment - "just like my Turkish home" he says.
Kavala has a beautiful beach-front location in the centre of Turunç bay and is popular with daytime vsitors who love its well-tended beach area, comfortable sunbeds and attentive service. It serves traditional Turkish and English breakfasts and light snacks such as salads, burgers, omelettes, pide and pizza are available throughout the day.
At dinner, meals at Kavala emphasise traditional Turkish dishes from across the country such as Beyti Kebap - minced lamb and beef, with spices - served in traditional lavaş (puffy) bread. There is also a great selection of fish dishes including the Salmon Parcel - a fllet of fish with mushrooms, tomatoes, onions and garlic - wrapped in foil and baked in the oven. A range of tasty mezes get you off to a great start and (if you are still hungry) there are some fantastic Turkish desserts to round off a memorable evening. For a special treat try the special Kavala "mixed grill" featuring your choice of meze, then chicken wings/shish, meatballs, Urfa Kebap and Aubegrine Kebap - great value at 100TL for two. There is a good choice of soft and alcoholic drinks, and a selection of Turkish wines available to complete your visit. The restaurant also has a range of cocktails to tempt visitors. Kavala Restaurant is delighted to host special celebratons and can accomodate up to 75 people for private events.
